TNR - Cat Trapping
TNR What does it mean? TRAP - NEUTER - RETURN
Our Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program is a humane method in managing feral cat populations. Years ago, cats were often poisoned to keep their numbers down. There is a better way and Tails of Mexico is proud to have launched our lakeside TNR program in 2024.
The program involves working with local community members who are often taking care of the colony and need some help. We go out, trap the cats then overnight them to ensure they don't have food or water before their surgery. The next morning, they are transported to one or more vet clinics for their surgeries. We pick them up later in the day and overnighting them one more evening. The next morning, they are returned to their original location.
This program helps to control the feral cat population by preventing new litters from being born, while also improving the health and behavior of the cats. TNR is a cost-effective and compassionate solution that benefits both the cats and the community.
