For Tails of Mexico, fostering means providing short-term care for animals recovering from sterilization surgery. Unlike adoption, it’s a commitment of days—not forever—but equally life-saving.
Tails of Mexico welcomes all volunteers over the age of 18. If a minor wishes to volunteer, a parental release form will be required. Volunteers with Tails of Mexico need to be able to help in both Jocotepec and Chapala municipalities. Volunteer roles are based on your interests and skills. Fill in the “sign-up” form to start the process of what role(s) can work for you.
No, you don’t need to be bilingual. However, for volunteer roles that work directly with owners, Spanish is required at an Intermediate level if not fully bilingual.
There are volunteer jobs that do require the ability to drive and having access to a car can be extremely helpful. Rides can be arranged with other volunteers for many of our activities. Our volunteers are extremely kind, positive and helpful.
Yes you can. There are even some roles that let you work with both.
For the roles involving event set-up and take-down, lifting of totes and boxes can be part of the job. Working with the clinic transport team requires the ability to lift and carry unconscious dogs or cats as they are moved through the various clinic work stations. In the case of extremely large dogs, a team of 2 move the animal.
Tails of Mexico will gladly try to find a volunteer role that can work for you.
After submitting the initial sign-up form, our volunteer co-coordinator will reach out to you to get more detailed information and discuss the areas where we need the most help. You may do this by email, telephone, WhatsApp or a personal meeting. Once you have agreed upon a volunteer role, you will be connected to the volunteer leader for that area to pursue how you can start being involved.
Depending upon the work area some pre-event training may be required. As we are fully volunteer run, it is not always possible to do so. For the Sterilization Clinic areas there are job descriptions in most cases and we have a series of training videos available.
There are a wide variety of administrative and fundraising tasks that can be done virtually. Data entry, fundraising coordination, follow up calls and messages to owners, especially if you have Spanish ability.
Transcribing scanned handwritten information for reports and record keeping is one of our critical tasks.
